Tour our basement living room! I’m sharing ideas on how to bring blue and white Christmas decor into your home for a cheery and festive feel.

It’s our first Christmas in the Lavender Blue Cottage. Most of the home is about to become a construction zone, but we have finished this basement family room.
We have saturated this cozy space with a beautiful dusty blue color. It has made for the perfect opportunity to bring in blue and white Christmas decor.
Let me show you around this newly finished space of our home for ideas on how you can bring more blue into your life! (It’s the best color!)

Are Blue and White Christmas Colors?
There’s nothing wrong with traditional Christmas colors, like red and green, but blue and white feel very natural during the winter months. Blue and white decorations also look lovely with green accents, like fresh greenery, Christmas trees, wreaths, garlands, etc.

It’s almost effortless to turn a blue and white space into a winter wonderland! I’ll walk you through the details of this space to show you how I did it.
White and Blue Christmas Decorations
Of course, the blue and white Christmas tree is the most important part to bringing in this Christmas color palette. A flocked tree would be a beautiful addition to a blue color scheme. We had this green tree and simply added white and blue Christmas tree decorations.

Since it is a basement space, I feel better about a pre-lit faux tree. Less of a fire hazard, for sure.
I didn’t go too crazy with the ornaments but simply added some beautiful ribbon, white ornaments, silver ornaments, and blue ornaments. The paper angels and yarn wrapped stars from past years made an appearance on this tree.
I love wrapping a cozy quilt around the base for the tree skirt.

So far, we only have gifts from grandparents under the tree, but I plan to add some gifts using blue and white gift wrap to tie it all together.
Decorating the Sideboard
Because we don’t have a mantel or any other shelf in the basement, I used the long sideboard that we built to add some decor. I love the neutral colors with natural elements.

I kept it pretty simple with a mini tree, thrifted wooden shoes and our precious nativity set.

Tiny pinecones are always adorable, don’t you think?

Stockings for the Holiday Season
I sewed these mini stockings in varying shades of white for our Christmas countdown activities every night. They work so great in this blue and white space.

I love to hang them on this stick ladder my husband made me years ago, from fallen branches.

Hanging any type of stocking is a quick and easy way to bring in holiday decor, especially in your favorite color palette.

Sofa and Linens
Since this is a family room, we could use a lot of blue and white in the linens and even the sofa itself. I adore our french blue sofa, with the dusty light blue piping. It really sets the stage to add even more white and blue decorations in the pillows and throw blankets.

I decided to add a green linen throw blanket as well, to tie in with the green tree and give it all a cohesive look. Even though you may have a specific color scheme in mind, don’t be afraid to use different colors to bring it all together.

Art and Wreaths and Baskets Full of Blankets
To top it all off, I added some simple Christmas art, wreaths and cozy baskets around the space.

I adore the rock wall in this space and I envisioned a wreath hung on it the moment we saw this house. It’s the prettiest thing to look at down the stairway.

I also thrifted this little hook stand and hung a DIY pom pom wreath on it with simple ribbon. A blue ribbon would have been a good idea too!

Finally, it’s always a good idea to place candles around the home during the winter season. They add the perfect cozy touch.
I hope you enjoyed seeing some white and blue Christmas decor ideas. This basement was really made for the holiday home and I am so thrilled to have had this space to decorate. Thanks for joining me on this Christmas basement tour!

Hi, would like to ask you about your flooring? Is that real wood floor, do you like the light color, was it done by a local shop or a chain store? I have found I need to replace carpet in our rental property and am looking to replace it with a wood or laminate flooring. Thanks!
I love your site!!!!
Beautiful! What are the colors you painted with?
