Progress at the Lavender Blue Cottage is moving right along. There is still plenty to do as we update our new home, but we can check at least one thing off the list – a country cottage girl’s bedroom.
And oh, what a darling room it has turned out to be! This room was designed for my daughter who loves all things pink, feminine, old-fashioned, and charming. She’s a cottage gal through and through, so including her in the design process was a delight.

Let’s take a look around while I share some ideas on how to add country cottage charm to your bedroom. If you’d like to watch the video of this bedroom reveal, click on the button below!

Skip the Carpet
I love being in a space that feels timeless. Know what I mean? When a room could be brand new or 100 years old and you’d never guess from the décor and design elements. It’s just classic and beautiful.
That’s one of the reasons I always skip the carpet in favor of hardwood floor. Yes, it’s easier to clean, but it also adds tons of cottage charm.

In fact, wood floors give you a great base for any style. I love being able to swap out a rug without the commitment of carpet. After using hardwood floors in several homes, I’m never going back!
Use Cottage-Friendly Patterns
Another charming element of a cottage-style home is pattern. Especially dainty patterns like the darling flowers featured on our country cottage bedroom wallpaper. No boring white walls here. I love it!

Incorporate Color for a Cottage Vibe
Cottage homes typically incorporate more color than say, farmhouse-style homes. At least, my interpretation does!
My daughter loves shades of dusty pink, so we went with a paint color called Rosy Pink by Magnolia for the doors and trim. It complements the floral wallpaper’s color palette beautifully. Definitely one of my favorite parts of this cottage bedroom.

A Cozy Bed is a Must
I’ve been saving a gorgeous antique 1800’s bed frame for just the right room. This was one of those rare second-hand finds that you just cannot pass up, even if you don’t have a place for it yet.
Happily, this bed has finally found its home! The natural wood color and the sweetly carved details make this a perfect fit for a cottage bedroom.

Of course, this bed doesn’t just look lovely, it feels like sleeping on a cloud! We used a Savvy Rest Vitality mattress topper to transform a regular mattress into a soft and cozy paradise. We finished the bed off with a Savvy Rest mattress protector to keep everything clean and fresh.

My daughter says it is so hard to get out of this bed in the morning. I can’t blame her, it is heavenly!
Choose Timeless Cottage Bedroom Linens
A cozy bed must have cozy linens. We chose creamy almond-colored cotton/linen sheets for this room. You can’t beat the texture of linen for comfort.
The fluffy duvet, with its delicate floral prints fabric, makes this bed feel amazing.
So many soft textiles! It’s like sleeping in a cloud.

I also added some coordinating throw pillows and curtains to make this room feel cohesive. To me, it has such an inviting atmosphere.
Furniture Ideas for Country Cottage Charm
Did I mention the furnishings? Feel free to experiment here.
Mis-matched, time-worn, antique furniture or brand-new items. We used a combination of all of these in this bedroom. It really doesn’t matter as long as it has that cottage feel.
This armoire/dresser is a newer piece I found on Facebook Marketplace. I love the extra storage it provides in this cozy bedroom.

Next to the armoire, we put a second-hand armchair to create a nice little reading nook. A great idea for small spaces with sloped ceilings like this one.
My girl loves to cozy up with her quilt and read in the natural light.

On the other side of the bed, we used an antique bedside table and an antique lamp to add warmth.

In my opinion, a curated group of unrelated, but complimentary furniture will always look more charming than a brand-new coordinating bedroom set. I love the authenticity of a room that has been put together piece by piece.
Flea markets, antique and thrift stores are my favorite sources for unique decorative pieces.
Decorate with Vintage-Style Art and Decor
If you guessed I was going to say decorate with vintage-style artwork or décor, you were correct! You know me so well!

Nothing is more charming for a country cottage bedroom than some timeless décor. I love finding vintage art and other items that give personality to my space. That’s what I did in this hallway makeover, and I loved it!

Vintage accessories and accents, like these like these switch covers and wicker baskets, always make me smile. Sweet simplicity. Sigh

Flowers Never Fail
Natural materials add so much to a room. Greenery, house plants or fresh flowers are all great options. And no, you don’t have to constantly buy fresh flowers to have a lovely arrangement either.
Baby’s breath is easy to find and it will dry looking like a million bucks. You can enjoy it for many weeks before needing to refresh. That’s what I did with this Christmas tree and mantel a few years back. It was beautiful all season long.

Note to Self: Plant all the baby’s breath. Future You will be so glad that you did!

I love the wallpaper! I’m about to decorate my baby girls room and was thinking about adding wallpaper; however, do the walls need to be smooth? We have light orange peel texture ????
