An outdoor dining table is set with a table cloth, linens, and silverware in red, white and blue

It’s almost time to celebrate the fourth of July, and you know what that means? In my neck of the woods it means fireworks, family, friends, late nights and delicious cook outs. I’ll take some of each, please!

If you’re like me, you may be thinking about how to get your home ready for the patriotic holidays. I’ve been thinking about it for a while now too. What I’ve come up with are some simple, easy and stunning ideas for a patriotic tablescape.

The ideas I”m going to share with you can be used for any patriotic holiday, not just Independence Day. You can use a patriotic table setting for Labor Day or Memorial Day as well. And if you don’t live in the USA or another country that uses red, white and blue, you can easily adapt the color schemes to fit your local holidays.

Let’s dive into some simple and cost effective ways to set a welcoming table for your guests during the summer holidays!

1: Patriotic Tablecloths and Linens

When it comes to tablescapes, the best place to start is with the tablecloth. Personally, I like to used them because they make outdoor furniture look better, they make clean up easier and they help set a tone for the rest of your decor.

Because I wanted this to be a low cost project, I used a thrifted table cloth from one of my antique hauls. My table cloth happened to be white and red, but any patriotic colors will do. Thrift and antique stores are great sources for table linens, just be sure to inspect them before buying.

I’ve also rounded up some of my favorites from Amazon here.

I also used some fabric napkins with white and blue stripes to round out the linens. I opted not to use placemats (just one more thing to wash!), but that’s another option if you like the look.

One of the things I love about these linen napkins and tablecloth are that the colors are subtle and they can be used in a variety of settings. Versatility is important when it comes to home decor items. I’ve got to be able to use it more than once! This tablecloth has come out at Christmas and Valentines Day so far.

2: Dishes and Silverware

Next, I moved to the dishes and silverware. I kept things simple with one neutral-colored dinner plate and a simple mason jar at each place setting. I love the laid back feel that mason jars bring to a patriotic table.

For the silverware, I used simple red and blue handled pieces that I picked up from the thrift store. I did a mix-and-match arrangement of pieces at each plate which turned out to be so cute. If you’re short on silverware, intentional mixing can be fun and look great!

3: Patriotic Centerpiece

Now, it’s onto my favorite part of a beautiful tablescape, the centerpiece!

In keeping with my easy and budget-friendly decorating ideas, I made a simple arrangement of greens and real flowers clipped from around my property at the Lavender Blue Cottage. White hydrangeas would have been amazing here, but I don’t have any at this house. Instead I used what was on hand in the yard.

4: Patriotic Table Drink Ideas

Next, it’s time to add a little personal touch to this patriotic 4th of July table.

Into our mason jars I added darling star-shaped ice cubes. I just used a silicone ice cube tray that I had and dropped a blue berry into each one for a pop of color and a touch of flavor. You could try this idea with raspberries or strawberries as well.

If you don’t have any fruit on hand, you could also add a bit of food coloring or fruit juice to your water before freezing for red or blue ice cubes. Either way it will look great without adding any extra cost to your table setting.

To go with our fun drink idea, I used some twine to tie a cute paper straw onto each napkin.

Easy and simple – just the way it should be!

5: The Finishing Touch

Lastly, I draped a banner across the greenery next to our patio. It’s a simple and inexpensive item, but it the banner adds a nice touch of patriotism to our backyard setting. A flag or a patriotic-colored garland would also look great.

We’re now ready to get our 4th of July party started, and I can’t wait!

Where Can I Buy These Patriotic Products?

If you want to purchase any of the products I used in this patriotic table setting, jump on over to my TIDBITS & Company Patriotic Decorations Moonsift page for links and product details.

Where possible, I have linked the exact product I am using. In some cases where that wasn’t possible, I have linked a similar product. Almost anything you see pictured here that wasn’t linked in my Moonsift page was purchased second hand from a thrift store or antique shop.
