This easy homemade chili recipe is full of flavor and a family favorite! Make it on the stovetop or in the slow cooker for a cozy, comforting dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 yellow onion chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves minced or pressed
  • 1 red bell pepper chopped
  • 1 ½ cups chicken broth
  • 1 28 oz can diced tomatoes
  • 2 15 oz cans dark red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 15 oz can corn, drained
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 3 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Sauté the ground beef or turkey until cooked through. Drain off the grease, if necessary. Add the onion, garlic, and bell pepper to the meat and sauté until the vegetables are slightly tender.
  • To a slow cooker or soup pot, add the meat mixture and all remaining ingredients. Stir until everything is well combined.
  • If using a slow cooker, cook on low for 2-4 hours or until the chili is heated through, then keep warm until ready to serve. If cooking on the stovetop, simmer until heated through. The longer the chili simmers, the more the flavors will develop and blend together.

Notes

TOPPINGS:
When ready to serve, top with shredded or cubed cheese, tortilla chips or Fritos, avocado, cilantro, and sour cream.
