Benefits of Rosemary for Hair

Rosemary is fantastic for hair health!

  • Rosemary water helps to balance oils on the scalp, leading to better scalp health.
  • Thanks to its antioxidant properties, rosemary can help prevent stress and damage to the hair from free radicals. Less breakage and frizz!
  • By stimulating blood flow to the scalp, rosemary helps bring more nutrients to the hair follicles and can increase the rate of hair growth.
  • Rosemary’s anti-inflammatory properties can help pesky conditions like dandruff and skin irritation to improve.
  • Those awesome anti-inflammatory properties may even help reduce hair loss by strengthening hair at the root and reducing scalp inflammation.

Rosemary is great for all hair types. Why not give it a try?

How to Use Rosemary Hair Water

To use your rosemary hair water:

Lift up hair in sections and spray directly on roots. Use your hands or a scalp massager to gently massage the hair water onto your scalp and hair follicles. Doing this will help ensure good coverage and increase blood circulation to help promote growth and healthy hair.

Use rosemary water twice a day (morning and night) for best results. You can also use it as a dry/wet shampoo because it helps cut grease and allows you to go longer between hair washes.

You should start to see results after about 4 weeks of regular use. (Consistency is key!)

Alternately, you can use your rosemary water in the shower as a hair rinse. After washing, pour rosemary water over your scalp and saturate the hair strands. Either leave it in or rinse out after 10-15 minutes. This method is great natural remedy for treating frizz!

If you’re worried about skin sensitivities, try doing a small patch test before using on your whole head.

Storing Your Rosemary Hair Water

Remember to store your homemade rosemary water in the fridge for the best shelf life. After 2 weeks you’ll want to toss the old water and make a new batch to avoid any bacteria growth. The measurements in this recipe should get you through 2 weeks.

See the Results!

This is my daughter’s beautiful head of hair. I didn’t think to get before pictures, but what you see below you are the results after using rosemary hair water for about one month.

I’d describe the state of her hair before as very nice, but not particularly fast growing, which is what she was hoping to see. Since using the rosemary hair water we’ve noticed lots of new growth – much more than her usual rate! The hair texture is also more smooth, shiny and healthy feeling all around.

Isn’t that gorgeous hair?! She’s been faithfully using the rosemary hair water in her hair care routine both morning and night and her hair feels so thick and healthy.

You can see the new growth best in the fine, wispy hairs near her neck line that are thicker and longer than ever. I am a bit jealous! I think I need to be adding rosemary water to my hair care routine as well. Want to join me?!

Disclaimer: I’m not a medical professional and these are my observations. This rosemary water is a wonderful way to promote healthy hair growth and it is impressive, but it’s not a miracle worker. It’s important to have realistic expectations. Please talk to your doctor if you have health concerns about your hair or anything else.

My daughter also suggests these healthy hair practices:

  • Braid your hair for sleeping, since that helps prevent breakage
  • Sleep on 100% pure linen or silk pillowcases
  • Avoid using hot hair tools, whenever possible (or use our homemade heat protectant)
  • Rub coconut or argon oil on the tips to nourish them
  • Use a bamboo brush or a tangle teaser
  • Use safe hair elastics
  • Try a rosemary oil or a hair mask with your rosemary hair water! That way your roots are covered with the hair water and the oil and mask can help nourish your lovely locks.

My daughter loves using her own rosemary water to boost hair growth and hair health. It’s been fantastic! I am loving that she is using something safe and all natural that costs basically nothing to make. Win-win all around!

  1. Have not done this yet, but it seems like a great mixture for hair growth, but instead of taking the whole vine of it or whatever you wanna call it are you able to prick some of the rosemary little pedal things off or would that not work?

  2. Just curious…why do you add water after you boil the rosemary? That seems like it would dilute it. I’ve seen other recipes that don’t mention doing that. Is there a reason why you do?

  3. I made the water and was wondering if you can freeze the water, I was thinking it would be nice to have some batches made and freeze them.

    Thank you…
