Why a Natural First Aid Kit?
As someone who likes to be prepared, I take my first aid kit pretty seriously. I also love to use natural ingredients and remedies whenever possible, especially with common ailments that I can confidently treat or support at home. Thus, our natural first aid kit was born. My kids like to call it our “family feel-good kit” and it travels with us wherever we go.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I do keep a traditional first aid kit as well. I have a large kit from Sam’s Club that contains things like ice packs, traditional over the counter pain killers, hydrogen peroxide, gauze, antibiotic ointment and so on.
I think that a traditional first aid kit is important to have, but you know me – I’m going to reach first for natural remedies. A natural solution is often all we need to help us with every day sickness, pain, injury and general wellness.
*Disclaimer: I am not a trained medical professional and you should consult your physician if you are concerned about any of these products. I am here to simply express my own experience using these products.
My Natural First Aid Kit
My hope today is to show you products that you can buy right now to stock your medicine cabinet or natural first aid kit. I’ll share a few homemade remedies as well, but my main goal is to give you some ideas you can quickly gather and start using.
Please keep in mind that this list isn’t comprehensive and isn’t mean to cover everything you might need on hand to care for yourself or your family. Rather, it’s a list of some of my favorite tried and true natural remedies that I couldn’t do without.
Headache and Pain Relief Natural Products
Here is my line up for aches, pains, headaches, urinary tract support and earaches or ear infections.
*All these products can be found in my curated shop moonsift board.

- Arnicare: You’ll notice I have a line up of homeopathic treatments that I keep for all sorts of things. I find them very helpful and supportive, and Arnica has proven to help us in times of headaches and pain when we might otherwise want turn to other traditional pain relievers that can have side effects.
- Dandelion Salve: This is something I make but you can also purchase from my favorite salve shop over at Bloom to Balm. The power of dandelions never ceases to amaze me, and I always rub this salve on my head and neck when I have pressure or tension built up. Add to it a lie down with a cold rag over your eyes and forehead – and you’ll be good to go!
- Peppermint Essential Oil: I’ll rub this on my forehead and neck (best with a carrier oil) to take the edge off a headache. Any trusted brand of essential oils works – I am not tied to one in particular.
- Past Tense Essential Oil Blend: If just peppermint isn’t strong enough for your headache, this is a really good oil blend to offer some headache relief.
- Headache Tincture: This tincture has saved me many times. I bring it to every conference or retreat when I know I won’t be sleeping or eating as good as I usually do (making headaches inevitable).
- Pain Potion Tincture: Earthly has a line of tinctures that are great to have! Pain potion takes the edge off many moments of pain, allowing you to avoid other pain medication.
- UT Relief and Earache Ease: I had to put these recommendations in a category – and the pain section was it. While these might be more along the lines of infection support, I start dosing them at the first sign of a UTI or ear infection – with great success!
Seasonal Allergy Relief Natural Products
Seasonal allergies can drive some of the members of my family crazy! This is what I like to use during that pesky allergy season.

- Peppermint, Lavender and Lemon Essential Oils: These 3 plants are all very helpful for seasonal allergies. I will diffuse these all day and night in our home when needed. You can also take them in supplement form with the TriEase product from Doterra.
- AllergyCalm: Another amazingly helpful homeopathic remedy. They make kid specific ones too.
- Throat Spray: A wonderful Earthly product, helpful for scratchy throats due to allergies or sickness.
- Sinus Savor: Use to help during times of allergies or sickness as well – just keep it on hand!
Cold, Sore Throat and Congestion Relief Natural Products
There are lots of good natural solutions for colds, sore throats and congestion – all very common ailments we constantly need support for.

- ThroatCalm, ColdCalm, SinusCalm: These homeopathic remedies target different things, so find the one that will help with your specific symptoms. I always have these on hand because they work so good!
- Herbal Tea: I could do a whole post on the herbal teas to take when you are under the weather – but a simple solution is to just cruise the grocery store or apothecary for tea blends that target what you need support for. They are extremely soothing and supportive especially for kiddos. Always add some honey once it is cooled down to coat those sore throats!
- Herbal Cough Drops: Look for cough drops that are pure and clean and infused with herbal supports! I love the Young Living kinds, but there are many good options at Natural Grocers as well.
- Salves: Herbal salves can help with instant relief – whether you are congested or have headaches due to the virus you are fighting.
- Essential Oils: I know of no better way to clear mucus than a face steamer with some good ol’ essential oils! Eucalyptus and peppermint can be used alone if that is all you have, but many brands make blends or rubs with respiratory oils that are very helpful. Pour some boiling water into a bowl and cover the bowl and your head with a towel. Breathe in all the steam and enjoy the congestion dripping out and clearing out your head! Super important to prevent sinus infections. I suggest doing it morning and night – at minimum.
- Throat Spray – you can make your own if you know how, but the product from Earthly is amazing.
- Cough-Be-Gone Tincture: So many tinctures are at my disposal for cold and flu bugs, but I grab this one if the cough is really bad.
Flu and Stomach Bug Relief Natural Products
When we get the flu, an upset stomach or a stomach bug, I find myself reaching for these natural products.

- Oscillococcinum: This homeopathic is one I keep many boxes of! It is phenomenal and can really support the body and relieve symptoms of the flu.
- Portable Barf Bags: Keep these in the car – for sure! Even by the bedside or nightstand for unexpected moments would be wise.
- Activated Charcoal and Grape Juice: Please do some of your own research on how to dose this, but if one person in the family is puking with a stomach bug, I’ll dose some activated charcoal with a cup of grape juice right away for everyone else. It seems to stop the chain reaction quick! I don’t give it to the one who is throwing up as it is more of a preventative treatment – and can just make the results of throw up more of a stain risk.
- Electrolyte Powder: Most electrolyte drinks are full of unsupportive ingredients and expire quickly. I like to keep this much healthier powder drink on hand to restore electrolyte balance for any of us that are depleted due to a stomach issue.
- Feel Better Fast Tincture: I grab it and dose quickly at any sign of sickness, especially flu bugs. I have found it makes symptoms less severe and we recover faster. Any other supportive herbs like elderberry and echinacea can do the same thing (which I believe are in this product in a shelf stable form).
- Digestzen Essential Oil: These digestive essential oil blends can really help with stomach bloat or tummy aches.
Cramps and Bloating Relief Natural Products
Cramping and bloating can be relieved with natural products as well.

- Digestzen: Mentioned already above, but keep this oil in your travel bag when things get backed up!
- Smooth Move Herbal Tea: I swear by this stuff to clean out a very bloated tummy!
- Raspberry Leaf Tea: This is a well known herb for cramps during the menstrual phase. I am grateful it can be found at the grocery store in times of urgent need – but keep some at home too!
Skin and Wound Care Natural Products
Scrapes, minor cuts, sunburns, insect bites, stings, blisters and general skin care can benefit from healthy, natural products too. Here are my favorites.

- Salves: All the salves! For slivers, go for a drawing salve. For wounds, look for salves that have dandelion and calendula. Arnica, as we know, is so great for topical pain relief.
- Lavender Hydrosol: For sunburns, nothing feels as good as spraying on lavender water, otherwise known as hydrosol. Can also be very helpful as a face toner and to help with acne. Smells so good too!
- Aloe Vera Gel: Get it as pure as you can, and always take it to the beach with you!
- Deep Blue Essential Oil: Doterra has a line of deep blue products that are incredibly soothing to sore muscles, and internal aches and pains.
- Lavender Essential Oil: Can’t go anywhere in the summer without a roll on bottle of this! Instant relief on those insect bites!
Sleep, Stress and Anxiety Natural Products
One of the best ways to improve sleep and lower stress and anxiety is with natural solutions.

- SleepCalm and StressCalm: If you are just too wound up – go for these natural homeopathic solutions.
- Herbal Teas: Lavender and Chamomile are my go-to teas to infuse to help me calm down and drift off.
- Melatonine: This is my last resort, because it isn’t as natural as I like and can have side effects if used long term. However, if I am really struggling with sleep, I resort to this rather than go to harder medications. It works great, especially for travel.
- Lavender and Frankencense: These are the most calming oils to me, that I’ll diffuse and use topically to help me relax.
- Sleepy Time Tincture: Tinctures are a great way to use these herbs we’ve talked about very effectively.
Immune Support and Sickness Prevention Natural Products
Lastly, there are products that I like to use for immune support and to ward off illness. They do say that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

- Immune-aid: At the first sign of sickness, this is going in our drinks several times a day. It is full of vitamin C and is much better for you than most drug store options.
- Feel Better Fast: I always notice a difference in the severity and duration of a sickness when I stay on top of dosing this tincture.
- Elderberry Syrups or Tinctures: I quickly make up elderberry teas, syrups or grab my shelf stable tinctures to support struggling immune systems.
- Infused Garlic and Fire Cider: Truthfully, I know of nothing more effective than these recipes. You have to be prepared with a batch always brewing, but holy smokes – are they powerful!
Where to Buy Natural First Aid Kit Products
If you’re like me, then you don’t have time to go from store to store or website to website looking for multiple products. That’s why I created my TIDBITS & Company Natural Products Moonsift page. You can find links for all of these items, plus a few more of the favorite natural products, all in one place. Check it out as I will certainly keep adding things as I discover them.
How I Store My Natural First Aid Kit
In addition to what is stored in my medicine cabinet at home, I also keep a portable natural first aid kit for on-the-go care. I’ve found a plastic tote is the easiest way to store everything so that it’s ready to grab whenever we head out for a trip.
I love a clear tote so that I can see everything inside, but you can also create a list of your first aid contents to attach to the tote lid for easy reference. A list also helps you see what you need to restock in your first aid kit.
Smaller kits are great for hiking, backpacking and other outdoor adventures. Don’t forget the insect repellent for those summer-time bugs!

Homemade Natural First Aid Kit Remedies
If you’d like to try your own hand at making some natural products for your health and wellness, might I suggest a few of my own?
