Vintage bedrooms ideas for a cozy space. We’re going Granny-chic in the master bedroom and loving every bit of it!

There’s something about a bedroom, especially the master bedroom, that tends to move it down the list of priorities when it comes to decorating. Maybe because it’s a pretty private space? I’m not sure, but it often doesn’t get much attention. At least, that’s what happened here at the Lavender Blue Cottage.

After renovating the kitchen, pantry, bathroom, living room and homeschool room, not to mention several other spaces (seriously lots, see them all in my home tours), it was finally time to give some TLC to the master bedroom.

Vintage Bedroom Vibe

Cottage style homes are so fun to decorate, especially for a vintage-loving gal like myself. I love the primitive, pioneer, antique, granny-chic vibe that comes together over years of careful collection. The kind of room that could be from any era and that balances feminine and masculine qualities.

Antique and tables and an antique bed are part of a vintage bedroom design

For this bedroom, I fiddled around with different colors before deciding that a soothing neutral color scheme was the way to go. I wanted a personal retreat with less visual stimulation and more relaxation. You’ll see lots of whites, creams and browns in this vintage style bedroom.

Bed Linens

I’m a wee bit obsessed with bed linens. They have a huge impact on the feel of the room!

A bed has been made with a fluffy white duvet, cream and tan sheets and pillows, and a brown and white patchwork quilt

For this master bed, I went with a fluffy white duvet, sheets and pillow covers in tans and creams, and a darling white and brown patchwork quilt. I felt like they added lots of traditional charm to this room.

Vintage Rug

Since the flooring in this room had been previously redone, all I felt the need to do was add a rug. It’s nice to have something soft under foot.

I chose a wool rug with lovely pattern, tassels and textures.

I love this piece in here, but also think it would look great in a room with more modern touches too.

Furniture

This room is not huge and neither are the closets, so furniture that allows for storage was a must!

Antique side tables with drawers and cupboards hold our lamps and books. An old fashioned dresser from Vintage Market Days is a life saver for extra clothing storage.

I find that keeping the tops of the furniture simple and uncluttered creates a peaceful feeling.

Vintage Window Treatment Idea

The window coverings in this vintage room took forever to come together! Purchased options just didn’t feel right in here. After experimenting with different styles, I ended up doing simple cafe-style curtains in the windows.

These curtains are actually just a pair of folded lace tablecloths with intricate patterns. The trick was using metal curtain rings to attach the tablecloths to the curtain rods.

We hung them halfway up the window. An excellent way to add privacy but still allow lots of natural light into the room. So simple, but it ended up being one of my best vintage bedroom ideas!

Vintage Artwork

I was thrilled to pull out some of my favorite antique art to hang on the walls of this bedroom.

Doilies with painted frames hang above the bed to make a focal point. Antique needle point art and an original painting of a rural living scene add to the vintage look.

That sweet painting is my idea of paradise!

Other Decor

Along with the artwork, I used a few other accessories and vintage accents to finish off bedroom.

Wall hangers double as functional storage and a vintage decor idea.

Multiple lamps help set the mood. There is no overhead lighting in this room and I’m ok with that. This is one room that benefits from soft, subtle lighting.

Simple vases and containers, flowers cut from the garden, and some beautiful books are sprinkled throughout the rest of the room to add charm.

Sweet and granny-chic in all the best ways. I love it!
